Direct Treatment. Disease Prevention.
Our patented microneedle bandage product administers medications directly through the skin with microneedles to treat tick bites, skin infections or wounds. Quick treatment is necessary after a tick bite, as Lyme Disease can be contracted in less than 48 hours. The microneedles allow drug delivery to the dermal layer of skin, directly to the area where the tick deposited pathogenic bacteria. This kills the bacteria locally to prevent systemic spread, thereby preventing the disease from spreading.
How It Works
After a tick bite, bacteria aren’t deposited into the skin until 24-hours after attachment, and remain localized in the skin for at least 24 hours before they disseminate. With a 48-hour treatment window, it should be possible to kill the bacteria at the site of entry.
The lyme patch will include our standard patch design (bioactive, immune enhancing, bacterial clearing properties) with the addition of low-dose doxycycline for the direct delivery of antibiotics to the tick bite. Using the patch immediately post-bite directly at the site will allow the doxycycline to better access the bacteria.
Low dose and transdermal application will allow for sufficient targeting while preventing the use of high dose antibiotics — which causes gut dysbiosis, contribute to antibiotic resistance, and require high doses to reach the external skin layer/skin barrier at the direct site of tick bite.
Lyme Disease Prevention Kit
The therapeutic patch will be used alongside our tick bacteria detection kit, and marketed as a Lyme Disease prevention kit. The Tick Tester is a tool designed for collecting ticks and testing them directly for the presence of disease causing bacteria. This patent-pending device gives results in just 15 minutes, and is cheaper than going to a doctor or clinic and getting tested after a tick bite – which takes 24 hours or longer for results.
These products together will represent an unprecedented ability for home users to detect and treat tick-borne bacteria transdermally.
More About the Microneedle Bandage
Microneedle Use for Advanced Wound Care
Healing From the Inside Out
Beyond being a treatment patch for tick bites, this patient-friendly bandage has uses in treating skin infections and wounds, including non-healing wounds, It consists of biodegradable microneedles in conjunction with a novel bandage matrix that disinfects wounds from the inside out without relying on antibiotics. By administering therapeutics directly to the wound, we are able to use 1/100th of the current dose of antibiotics.
The bandage works by mobilizing the innate immune system and maximizing the recruitment, survival and function of white blood cells known as neutrophils and macrophages, thereby tilting the balance toward rapid wound disinfection and healing. In contrast to current treatments for non-healing wounds, this treatment option is low-cost and extremely effective.
Low Dose, High Impact
Our novel transdermal approach achieves a high local concentration of the active ingredient using <1% of the FDA-approved dose thereby eliminating toxic side effects of systemic antibiotics, gut dysbiosis and limiting the potential for antibiotic resistance.
Targeted Drug Delivery
Our proprietary bandage matrix arrangement and fast dissolving, biodegradable microneedles pierce the epidermis for targeted and localized delivery into the dermis allowing for better penetration of the skin barrier than topical methods.
Enhance Natural Immunity
Our biphasic delivery system mimics the typical immune signaling environment to enhance local immune cell recruitment and help fight off infection naturally.
Applications as a Platform Technology
Therapeutic Bandage Products is committed to reaching the growing need to combat antibiotic resistance and desire to benefit patients and saving money for both healthcare professionals and the patient. Therapeutic Bandages products are the FUTURE of chronic, non-healing wounds treatment. We are the first to harness microneedle technology for this novel application.
Further, our patented microneedle technology has the ability to be used in other wound care applications such as:
- MRSA infections
- Diabetic foot ulcers
- Stalled wounds
- Surgical sites in humans
- Local skin infections such as pyoderma in pets
